MFPS was the first version of my popular Unity asset series, MFPS. Not to be confused with MFPS 2.0, the “reloaded” version, this legacy version was originally released in late 2014 on the Unity Asset Store. The asset was derived from my biggest project at the time, “Urban Ops,” a game I had been developing for three years.
“Urban Ops” was a multiplayer first-person shooter I began with hopes of releasing it on a web platform. I documented my development process with devlog videos on YouTube, which attracted a following of players and Unity developers. Due to the need for funds to continue development and the frequent “how-to” questions from other developers, I decided to isolate part of the “Urban Ops” project and release it as a game template on the Unity Asset Store.
In its first year, the asset received many negative reviews due to numerous bugs. These issues, along with challenges from other developers, led me to withdraw the asset from the store and focus on creating a better version. This marked the beginning of MFPS 2.0.
